ABOUT

Hello! My name is Vincent Zhang, and I'm currently a rising junior at Georgetown University. I study International Politics at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, and I'm also hoping to earn an Asian Studies certificate as well. I'm originally from southeastern Pennsylvania, but I hope to expand beyond suburban Philadelphia and pursue a career in foreign diplomacy. And as for why I'm part of this cohort of summer 2022 interns, I first discovered the 1882 Foundation through Georgetown's Chinese Student Alliance, and was drawn towards its mission of Asian American advocacy and cultural awareness.

Unsurprisingly, I'm incredibly grateful to have worked with the 1882 Foundation this summer! Aside from Growing Up Asian, I've also done work for the Talk Story and Education teams, which has consisted of presentations on media representation of Asian Americans as well as on lesser-known but interesting parts of Asian American history. With this team in particular, I've had the chance to explore aspects of my childhood and upbringing in ways that I had never previously considered. On the whole, the experiences I've had at 1882 and its teams have been invaluable and have given me fresh, inspiring perspective on AAPI issues and the ways in which those issues can be addressed.
