ABOUT

Hello all!
My name is Elizabeth, but I usually go by Liz. I am a senior at George Mason University studying global affairs and Chinese. After I graduate, I want to further my education by attending graduate school studying anthropology with an emphasis in Chinese American history. I have been interested in Asian culture since high school where I chose Korean as my language requirement. I also had a world geography course that required me to do an in-depth study of the Asian continent, covering different regions, their literature, and respected cultural traditions. When I started college, I choose Chinese. Honestly, when started I did not think it would take me on this journey. Although, I am so glad that it did. My initial thought was to become as fluent as possible. My professors had been encouraging and prompted all the students to interact and talk with the foreign exchange students to improve our skills. It was also suggested that we go to the Chinese cultural center, on campus to attend their cultural events and for tutoring. I eventually became an employee of the center, planning and leading cultural events and providing resources for people who wanted to learn about Chinese culture. I really enjoyed working there and would like to continue to do that as I learn more about Asian American History by working with the 1882 foundation.
Sincerely,
Liz
