ABOUT
Hongyang Zhao (赵泓洋)
Hi, this is Hongyang Zhao. I am from Shenzhen, China, and currently a rising senior at Boston University majoring in Social Studies Education and Psychology. As a prospective history teacher at the secondary level, I recognize the often understudied and under-appreciated history of Chinese Americans at schools across the US. The missions of the 1882 Foundation align with my personal aspirations as a pre-service teacher who advocates for justice-based education.
This summer I will be working on a Talk Story where I get to share my experience as a foreign student studying at a college in the US, specifically with the ‘silence’ of Chinese international students in American classrooms. Moreover, I will be helping the Education and Curriculum program by producing culturally responsive lesson plans that incorporate the literary work of Chinese Americans from the 19th to 20th Centuries.
